3 fabulous industry ladies are onboard…!

Enough of the mystery! On Tuesday July 4th we have leading actress Lara Peake, producer Nicola Bowen and casting director Shakyra Dowling who make up the team behind indie hit SPACESHIP – A girl fakes her own alien abduction and disappears, leaving her father to search for her in a strange teenage world of unicorns and black holes.

 

The film is so bonkers and beautiful we loved it! It was produced as part of Creative England’s iFeatures, it premiered at South by SouthWest (SXSW) in Austin, Texas and then headlined the BFI London Festival in 2016.
It’s now out in Picturehouse Cinemas across the country.

The casting team were tasked with finding a line-up of fresh, un-known talent, the characters are on the margin of society so there’s a really fascinating mix of alternative looks and styles on screen. This is a casting process you’ll want to hear more about!

Lara Peake: Nottingham based actress Lara is best known for playing the leading role of Chrissy in Channel 4’s hit serial killer drama Born to Kill (2017). She’s also starring in up-coming How to Talk to Girls at Parties (2017) and The Marker (2017). Lara plays Tegan in SPACESHIP.
Shakyra Dowling: A London based Casting Director, she works across a wide range of visual media, specializing in British Spaceship bfi filmIndependent Feature Films, European co-productions, TV and commercials. She’s a founder board member of the Casting Directors Association and a voting member of the European Film Academy and a member of the Casting Society of America. Credits include The 100 Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared (2013), Look Again and Again (2016) and SPACESHIP.

Nicola Bowen: A Leeds-based producer, who worked in business development at the regional screen agency for several years before moving into production. Encouraged by the critical success of her shorts, SPACESHIP was Nicola’s first feature film.
